"Form follows function, but not always."

-Marcel Breuer

Is design a craft, a tool, or an obsession?
These days, it's a bit of all three. But it's also starting to look a lot like a business fad: Declare you're a design-centric organization and-- voila!--you're the next Apple. We know it isn't that simple. So here is Fast Company’s annual roundup of the creative businesspeople dialing in to the power of design.

The final cut: the CEO who rescued Puma, the architect who imagined Google's stunning new offices (pictured here and featured in CSI’s July issue),the graphic artist behind some of America's best-known brands, and the product designer who predicts our appetites- -and satisfies them. You'll also meet five talents on the fast track to bigger things, hear sage advice on what design can (and can't) do for your bottom line, and get an eyeful of some amazing examples of the craft. Tool. Obsession. You get the idea.

Things are looking up with Up!
Up, a new aluminum post-and-beam office system from Tayco, is featured in the current issue of both Canadian Interiors and Interior Design.

Tailored for 360-degree space planning, Up’s work surfaces, mobile tables, and panels offer flexibility in screen height and workstation configuration (angled set-ups are possible). It’s also designed for LEED certifiable environments, and offers a range of laminate, wood veneer, mesh, translucent acrylic and powder-coat finishes.

Up won a silver award for alternative office and will be officially launched December 1, 2006. Its versatility makes it perfect for workstations, management offices, teaming environments, touch down stations and conferencing spaces.

HBF Textiles featured in October Interior Design
Greener Fields, Belgian Meadow and Sheepish, recycled polyester, were all featured in the current issue of Interior Design.

The Greener Fields Collection, designed for HBF Textiles by Marilyn Geller, is the latest addition to HBF Textile’s sustainable textile offering. This collection uses the most environmentally sound materials currently available for contract textiles and thus becomes a part of HBF Textiles Environmental Initiatives Program.

Idea Log: The Logic of Design
